Course Overview:
Our IPAF MEWPs for Managers Course delivers a minimum of 6 hours of classroom based instruction, providing supervisors or managers in your organisation that control the work of others in the use of MEWPS in the workplace.
The IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification is an internationally recognised qualification for use of such machinery. More than 100,000 operators are trained each year through a worldwide network of training centers. As an approved training center, we are audited by IPAF annually. Training generally lasts one to two days and is a mixture of theory and practice.
- Introduction including pre-course theory test, IPAF and PAL card overview
- Understanding the different machine classifications i.e. 1a, 1b, 3a, 3b, MC, TPI and IAD
- Awareness of different types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs)
- Examine the history of MEWPs and the sustainability of machine for tasks
- Understanding requirements for pre-use checks and daily maintenance prior to work commencing
- Understanding of regulations relating to MEWP usage
- Brief view of machines to understand some of the hazards (optional)
- Understanding the delivery of machines and familiarisation process on site
- Individual written test, with explanation of pass requirements . N.B Failure to pass will mean the delegate will have to re-sit the course on another day
- Course review and close
By the end of the course , the delegate will:
- Be fully aware of the relevant Health & Safety regulations and accident prevention and control
- Be fully aware of the needs regarding personal protection equipment
- Be fully aware of the need to refer to the machine operating manual and of the need for familiarisations
- Be fully aware of the implications of a hire contract
- Be fully aware of the importance of selecting the correct machine
- Be fully aware of planning and maintenance considerations.
Who needs a PAL Card?
If you need to work at height and use access equipment:
- IPAF believes that you should receive basic training
- In addition to your main job, e.g. electrician, painter, decorator, cleaner, you will acquire a new skill
- Platforms are designed to be easy to use and offer a safe way to work at height, but with basic training you will use the equipment more effectively and safely
- If you are an employerYou can be sure that legal requirements have been fulfilled if your platform operators have the PAL card
- Most legislation, covering Health & Safety obligations, accident prevention and work at height regulations, requires you to provide employees with proper and adequate training in the use of work equipment.
- IPAF training to the highest standard means that your platform operators will also work more efficiently and productively.
Course entry criteria:
- Applicants should be at least 16 years old and physically fit
- It is desirable (but not mandatory) that applicants should be literate
- It is desirable (but not mandatory) that applicants have had driving experience as an indication of dexterity.
